Me and my stuff
I've always been interested in nature photography, and for years used a number of Canon and Minolta film cameras. I sold the lot in 2003 and bought a Nikon Coolpix 4500, but soon decided that a digital SLR was the way to go.
Since 2004 I've been through various Canon cameras and lenses including two EOS 20Ds, an EOS 30D, an EOS 40D, an EF 400mm f/5.6L, and an EF 300mm f/2.8L IS before finding myself with the following which I use at the moment:
EOS 7D
EF 500mm f/4L IS
EF 1.4x II extender
Kenko 1.4x DG extender
Sigma 150mm f/2.8 APO DG
Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8
Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4
Speedlite 550EX
Macrolite MR-14EX
...plus sundry other gubbins.
I tart everything up using Canon DPP, Adobe Cs2 and Helicon Focus (for the stacks).

Severn Beach
This weekend there have been some good numbers of waders coming through Chew, but with it being low tide at the lake this autumn the waders are too far away for any photos.
So I found myself at Severn Beach this morning, where the tide was high and the waders were close...

Balloon Fiesta: Sunday afternoon - The Reds
THANK GOD FOR THAT - glorious sunshine for the best flying display of the weekend.
I tried a new vantage point this year and it so happened that it was about 100m below the display line. I've never had such fine (and close) views of a Red Arrows display anywhere - and with perfect light as well. It was strange seeing some of the maneuvers from an unusual angle but it meant that I was able to get some shots that were a little different from the standard airshow stuff. Good practice for Dawlish on Thursday...
Loads more, much bigger on Flickr (as with all this weekend's efforts). Click on the photos to view them in the lightbox, I would.

SUNDAY 14th AUGUST 2011
Balloon Fiesta: Sunday morning mass ascent
Slightly better weather this morning (cloudy again, but brighter), so I popped over to Victoria Park. The balloons weren't flying as low through the city as they did last night, so my plans were thwarted and I had to make do with a few snaps as they passed overhead.
The weather had better improve for the Reds this afternoon or I shall be disappointed.

SATURDAY 13th AUGUST 2011
Balloon Fiesta: Saturday evening mass ascent
The weather has been rubbish - the first time I've ever made any attempt to take photographs at the Balloon Fiesta and we get cloud and rain. Never mind, at least they flew this evening...
|
Quite a few flew low through the city, so if they go up tomorrow morning I might get somewhere the right side of the light to see if I can catch a few as they pass through.

Balloon Fiesta: Thursday night glow
My first visit to the Balloon Fiesta, and my first time photographing a balloon. Needed the short lens. It was tricky taking pictures amongst the crowd, but here's some that 'came out'...

Comma
A quick one after leaving Stratford hide today, between bouts of shite weather. A Comma basking on the handrail along the boardwalk...

Sallow Kitten
Back to something with wings... whilst out with the moth traps the other night I noticed this Sallow Kitten sat on a grass stem.
Two more (a bit bigger, too) at Flickr
